A sample file has been prepared to showcase the features of Close Bone Picker. This guide introduces each feature through the construction process.

If you are unsure how to use the add-on, please use this as a reference.

The following 3 features are introduced in this guide. For detailed settings on each, please refer to the individual pages in the Documents.

This sample uses a rig generated by Rigify, a built-in Blender add-on.

Navigation by Hierarchy

First, try selecting the head bone, then perform pick parent Alt + Left Mouse Press > Drag left .

The selected bone moves to neck. Continuing to perform pick parent moves it further toward the center of the body: chest > torso.

Performing pick child Alt + Left Mouse Press > Drag right moves it in the opposite direction, back toward the head.

Try the same with any bone — pick parent / child will let you feel the path running from the center of the body (waist) out to the extremities. This is the most fundamental feature of CBP.

The hierarchy in this sample file is just one example. You are free to reorder bones or adjust the granularity of selection. Build whatever structure works best for you.

Navigation by Pie Menu

Press Mouse Button4 (Back Button) to open the CBP Pie Menu. This gives you quick access to frequently used bones.

Pay attention to the top-right, top-left, bottom-right, and bottom-left slots. Each slot accesses a limb, but is configured to select the appropriate bone depending on the situation.

Specifically, selecting the top-right slot will choose:

Try selecting all four slots and you will find that you can intuitively reach whichever bone you need.

CBP Action

In Rigify, snapping between IK and FK requires several steps. For example, to convert a posed IK hand to FK while preserving the pose, you need to:

These 3 steps are always required. CBP Action lets you perform such repetitive, tedious operations in a single click.

Select hand_ik.L, move it slightly, then perform Alt + Left Mouse Press > Drag up . All 3 steps above are executed automatically, switching between IK and FK. You can register one macro-like action per bone and trigger it with a shortcut.

As a bonus…

For the CBP Action introduced last — if you run it while the Root bone is selected, a UI displaying the hierarchy structure will appear. It is not particularly practical, but it looks pretty cool.
